What to Pack for a Toubkal Trek: A Guide's Checklist
The exact kit our guides want to see in your bag — and the heavy mistakes first-timers make. A field-tested packing list for two days to two weeks on the mountain.
You don't need to be an athlete, but you do need a base. A simple eight-week plan to build the stamina and leg strength a Toubkal summit day demands.

Summit day on Toubkal means climbing around 1,000 m on the way up and descending the same on tired legs — typically six to eight hours of walking. Good news: with eight weeks of consistent, simple training most healthy people arrive ready.
Build aerobic endurance (long steady effort), leg strength (especially for descents) and the habit of walking for hours with a daypack.

Do one long 5–6 hour day in week 7, then ease off. Rest matters: arrive fresh rather than exhausted. Break in boots and test every piece of kit — see our packing checklist.
Most knee and thigh pain comes on the descent. Step-downs and walking down stairs slowly build the eccentric strength that protects you. Trekking poles help too.
Fitness gets you to the mountain; patience gets you up it. Walk slowly, eat often and trust your guide. If you'd like a gentler start, our full list of treks includes options for different levels.
